I like timed essay exams for their usefulness in preventing unwanted rants in the middle of an essay. Which is a negative, I suppose, when it comes to the idea of ranting too much on one point, thereby not giving you enough time to expound on the following points.

But yeah, I can't STAND timed essays for the lack of time. I suck a great deal at essays even when I'm given ENOUGH time to write a coherent one, so the essays I write under exam conditions are usually completely unorganized and (usually) not even related to my thesis. In any case, it's a great deal harder to write under exam conditions, which is why I never do too well.

What's even worse, though, is when you draw a complete blank on an exam, so you've not even got the minimum three points to write about. THAT'S the terrifying part.

But thanks for your post! <3

You make an excellent point about the comments on other students' blogs. I'm going to mention that to my fall classes next year. Thanks for the feedback.

Heya, im sorry but i ahve to disagree with you. Yes it is a sad story, but there are MANY others like it. My point is, why spend a trememdous amount of money on someone who cannot really appreciate it and What happens if she gets better? What would you tell her? How will you justify allowing the doctors to use her for experimentation?

Sorry to be such a Humbug :)

This is a very controversial topic in today's society. So far, it looks as if you have a good handle on the direction of your paper. Since discipline and spankings are opinionated and culturally swaded topics and not so much based on facts, I would suggest that you include personal experiences of people who have been spanked and have not experienced spankings. Their views will give you your perameters to argue within. Personally, this seems like this topic may be difficult to go into depth on the pros and cons because it's so emotionally based...I would research on psychological damange associated with spankings and so forth. With your personal experience it sounds like you have a strong connection to this issue so you will do well.

As a child I was spanked if I deserved it. And when I have children down the road I WILL spank them if the deserve it. Working with every age of child in a daycare center I believe that timeout doesn't work and is not a threat to the child. If you think about it if you put a child in timeout do you really think they are reflecting on what they did?? No!! They are looking at that spot on the floor or they are looking at that bug crawling around them.

Another thing that I do notice is the difference between the children that I know get spanked and the children that don't. Spanked children are a little more respectful and know the consequences of their actions of the do something. Non- spanked children are rude, they don't care who or what they do to hurt someone and usually give you that smart ass grin b/c they now that they are going to get away with it.

Think what you want about what I said but my child will be spanked and disciplined even if it is in a public area. My child will not run my household as I see so many children doing now.

I think Spanking your child is a very good topic. There is a lot of controversy when it comes to how you disipline your child. I don't really know how you could narrow it down more, maybe by looking at a certain location or time period. I know that when some children are abused it effects their relationsiphs and their trust in others as they grow up. You also might want to talk about how some children are mentally effected by it. Thats a good topic to write about.

Looking at the differences in regions and spanking may help limit your topic. Also, you may want to look for research that connects spanking to criminal behavior (those spanked become criminals) or abusive spouses/parents.

Excellent analysis! If you would allow me, I would like to use this analysis in my other classes to demonstrate how I want this assignment written.

As for your thesis statement, I was looking for a traditional thesis that includes the author's name, article name, and specific points you will be discussing in your essay. Don't worry too much about that because we'll be going over this more thoroughly in class in the next unit.

I've uploaded your grade into the Digital Dropbox.
